How to Save a Reddit Post (Desktop, Mobile, and Old Reddit)

A step-by-step guide to saving posts and comments on Reddit across every platform — new Reddit, old Reddit, the mobile app, and third-party clients.

Why Save Reddit Posts?

Reddit's save button is the platform's built-in bookmarking system. It lets you privately collect posts and comments to read later, reference in the future, or simply keep track of interesting content. Saved posts are visible only to you — no one else can see your saved list.

Unlike upvoting (which is about signaling approval), saving is purely for personal use. Think of it as a "read later" or "remember this" button.

How to Save a Post on New Reddit (Desktop)

The redesigned Reddit interface (the default at reddit.com) uses icons rather than text links:

Find the post you want to save
Look below the post content for a row of small icons (comments, share, save, hide, report)
Click the bookmark icon (it looks like a small ribbon or flag)
The icon fills in to confirm the post has been saved

To save a comment:

Find the comment you want to save
Click the three-dot menu (...) next to the comment
Select "Save" from the dropdown

How to Save a Post on Old Reddit (Desktop)

Many long-time Reddit users prefer old.reddit.com for its simpler interface:

Find the post you want to save
Look below the post for the text action bar: "XX comments | share | save | hide | give award | report"
Click "save"
The link changes to "unsave" to confirm

How to Save a Post on the Reddit Mobile App

iOS and Android (Official App)

Open the post you want to save
Tap the bookmark/ribbon icon in the top-right corner of the post
The icon fills in to confirm the save

To save from your feed without opening the post:

Tap the three-dot menu (...) on the post card
Select "Save"

To save a comment:

Long-press the comment text
Select "Save" from the popup menu

Mobile Browser

If you browse Reddit in a mobile browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox) without the app:

Tap the bookmark icon below the post
For comments, tap the three-dot menu and select "Save"

How to Save on Third-Party Reddit Apps

Since Reddit's 2023 API pricing changes, most third-party apps have shut down. If you still use one that works, saving typically involves:

Tapping a save/bookmark icon in the post's action bar, or
Long-pressing the post and selecting "Save" from a context menu

The save is stored on Reddit's servers, so it syncs across all your apps and platforms.

Where to Find Your Saved Posts

After saving posts, you can access them at:

Desktop: reddit.com/saved or click your profile icon and select "Saved"
Mobile app: Tap your profile icon and select "Saved"
Old Reddit: old.reddit.com/saved or click "saved" in the top navigation bar

Your saved items appear in reverse chronological order (newest first). Posts and comments appear in the same list.

How to Unsave a Post

Changed your mind? Unsaving works the same way as saving — just click/tap the save button again, and the post is removed from your list.

On old Reddit, the "save" link changes to "unsave" — click "unsave" to remove it.

Limitations of Reddit's Save System

Reddit's save feature is straightforward but limited:

No search. You can't search within your saved posts. The only way to find something specific is scrolling through the entire list. This becomes painful once you have hundreds of saves.
No organization. There are no folders, tags, or categories. Everything goes into one chronological list.
1,000-item display cap. Reddit only shows your most recent 1,000 saved items. Older saves become inaccessible.
No offline access. You need an internet connection to view your saves.
Deleted content is lost. If the original poster deletes their post, your saved entry remains but the content is gone.

Tips for Better Save Management

Be selective. Not everything needs to be saved. Use upvotes for content you enjoyed, and saves for content you want to return to.

Review regularly. Set a monthly reminder to go through your saved list. Unsave posts you've already read or no longer need.

Back up your saves. If your saved posts matter to you, consider exporting them or using a tool like Readdit Later that syncs your saves automatically and adds search and categorization.

Use comments saves too. Many people don't realize you can save individual comments, not just posts. This is useful for saving specific answers, recipes, or advice within a longer thread.
